We are terribly sorry that we have not been able to translate our adventures so far. This seems like the world’s oldest excuse but there simply was no time – just as we did not find time to sort out photos for upload. But we will try to think of it in the months coming. For now a really short account of our time has to do it:
Arriving in Melbourne we found that we really like the city. We have been discovering it on feet mostly and really enjoying it. After about 4 days we got a rented station wagon and drove down Great Ocean Road which really is worth a visit. On the way we decided not to go to Adelaide and Kangaroo Island after all but to loop back towards Melbourne – we simply underestimated distances in Australia and were not up for driving around for days without getting out of the car. So we got to see Koalas, Kangaroos, Wallabies and Emus in Tower Hill reservation. Also, Mount Gambier with it’s beautiful blue lake, we hiked in the beautiful wilderness of Grampians National Park for almost two days, hiked in the rain in Wilson’s Promontory and visited the Penguins on Phillip Island.
Back in Melbourne we enjoyed some nightlife with acquaintances from the hostel (where we got free pancakes every morning!) and among other things saw “Zootopia” in an Open Air Cinema in Melbourne’s beautiful Botanical Gardens.
Sydney has only been our host for a little more than 2 days in which we wandered around town, the Botanical Gardens and the Opera House. In between those days we have been to Surf Camp Australia where we had 5 days packed with surfing, fun and food. In the end, we are both able to ride white water waves (Sina even started on green water waves, steering and tricks) and have several wounds to show our efforts. These are mainly due to scraping over the beginners’ boards when falling or been tumbled around by the waves…or run over by other beginners. As 7 Mile Beach, where the camp is located, is a very shallow beach there is no danger of sharks – no worries about that, either!
Now we have gone to Tamworth, which is a really small town northwest of Sydney. We will be picked up here for a farmstay of 11 days, learning the daily tasks of Jackaroos and Jillaroos. There will probably not be any internet that close to the outback, so you can expect to hear from us earliest in 12 days. In the meantime we will try to sort out photos and upload them as soon as possible.
Sorry again for the very brief description of our time since we landed on february 29th. We send our love to all of you and are happy to read (and hopefully answer) comments!
